Our Co-Founder Jessica Kiely of course has a passion for natural perfumery. One of her other passions and loves is thrifting for luxe fashion. “I have always loved thrift shopping” shares Jessica, “as it feels so good to be a part of reusing things that would otherwise just be chucked away, and because you so often find absolute gems!”
Jessica has taken her kids thrift shopping, or what they call ‘treasure hunting’ from a very early age and they are hooked! Her eldest daughter now is often found shopping for new jeans and shirts in the iconic Newtown vintage stores.
Jessica shares with us her favourite luxe thrifting spots in her home town of Bondi where she likes to go ‘treasure hunting’ often.
Fashion Forward
Found on Campbell Parade, Bondi Beach, Fashion Forward is run by the remarkable Nicole & Sharon. It is a social enterprise with a conscience where 100% of the proceeds go to support women and children needing crisis, temporary or longer-term accommodation due to domestic abuse circumstances. Fashion Forward always has top-notch designer label pieces that are donated. And their space, right on the Bondi Beach doorstep, is warm, inviting and beautifully laid out. Plus they have regular sales on instagram but you have to be super quick to get those bargains! Jump on their instagram for opening hours. “I love how Nicole & Sharon have created not just a clothing store but a movement and are so passionate about what they do,” Jessica shares.
UTurn
Head down the iconic Hall Street in Bondi and you will find UTURN. This lovely unassuming store has been a leading operator in Sydney's second hand clothing industry for almost two decades. With six stores across Sydney UTURN provides a treasure map of second hand gems to shop and explore. They are a family owned and operated business with really great affordable second hand clothes. “It is hard to walk down Hall Street and not turn into this store. It pulls me in every time and I either find a new cool tshirt, some jewellery or a whole bunch of dresses,” admits Jessica.
Vinnies Bondi Beach
Also on Hall Street is the local Vinnies. This Bondi Beach establishment is very popular with locals and visitors alike. There is always a great range of clothes, toys, household items and books in great condition. You can also drop off your donations to be a part of the full circular economy. “Very often we pop in here after we have been at the beach, or if we need a last minute piece for a costume for school. We love it here,” shares Jessica. Vinnies is part of the St Vincent De Paul society that helps to provide food, clothing and living expenses for those in need in our community.
The Turn
Now if you can’t make it into Bondi you can still find some great luxe and designer pieces second hand with The Turn. The Turn is a destination platform to resell and recycle quality second hand designer clothing. You will find Camilla, Camila & Marc, Kenzo, Aje, Zadig & Voltaire and more on this site. “It is one of my guilty pleasures to scroll through this site as I relax!” shares Jessica.
