The Sunnyness of Amber

Amber fragrances are warm, rich, sunny, and often sensual. There is something primal about the scent, something erotic.

More about Amber

Amber the stone, is not used to create this style of fragrance. It's a fantasy fragrance referred to as an Amber Accord. It consists of a merging of ingredients such as vanilla, patchouli, labdanum, styrax and benzoin and a few more. It is used to create oriental fragrances that convey a rich, spicy and powdery feel.

Once upon a time Ambergris was used in this style of perfume. Ambergris is found in the intestines of a Sperm Whale. By excretion, the chunks end up in the sea, and they petrify under the influence of salt and the sun. Ambergris washes up on the beach as gray debris weighing up to several tens of kilos. It's rare and expensive, often called 'floating gold'. For the perfume industry, the debris is pulverized to make an extract or tincture which can be used in perfumes. It is becoming increasingly rare for a perfumer to use natural Ambergris. Due to the high prices of Ambergris and the alarming decrease in the number of sperm whales, hence the use of Amber Accords.
