Violet stands for loyalty, truthfulness and the sensitive thinker. The perfumers have wrapped this predominantly deep purple flower in notes of Musk, warm Sandalwood, Amber and added the high strung, almost metallic Nutmeg as a top note, as a refreshing contrast.

EASY VANILLA CAKE

The deliciousness of vanilla cake lies in its heavenly aroma and delicate, moist texture that melts in your mouth with every bite. The subtle yet distinct flavor of vanilla imparts a comforting sweetness that leaves a lingering sense of pure delight.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 1/2 cups of white flour. (You can use either standard flour or gluten-free flour.
  • 1 cup of sugar. For a sugar free option you can experiment with honey instead.
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda.
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
  • 1 teaspoon of white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar, or lemon juice)
  • 5 tablespoons of sunflower oil or your preferred oil.
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 1 cup of water.

METHOD

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 180C/350F and prepare a baking pan with baking paper. Leave around an inch on each side overhanging, so you can remove the cake out of the pan easily later!
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add your dry ingredients and mix well. Add the vinegar, the vanilla extract and the oil. Then slowly pour the water over the top. Using a whisk or wooden spoon, mix the ingredients.
  3. Transfer the vanilla cake batter into the lined baking pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out the centre clean. Remove the cake from the oven and allow the cake to sit for 10 minutes, before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  4. Once cooled dust with icing sugar.
